PERSONALITY: A beautiful and enigmatic woman, Inara is known
for her grace, manners, and subtlety. As a trained Companion it is
her job to make any clients feel secure and welcomed when partaking of
her services, and as such she is possessing of a variety of skills
which she uses to assist in entertaining clients. Possessing of a
calm and decidedly feminine air, she is known to have a seemingly
inordinate amount of patience when dealing with most people, and her
diplomatic skills have earned her the title of 'Ambassador' due to the
ease she has demonstrated in diffusing potentially difficult
situations. While it is very difficult for people to ruffle her
feathers there are a few people who even Inara has difficulty
maintaining her composure around, though she hides it well.

Proud without being haughty, she carries herself with the presence of
royalty and has been known to charm those around her with nothing more
than a slight smile and a kind word. Dangerous when crossed due to
her knowledge of weaponry and the human body, many find the idea of
upsetting Inara to be something they would not want to experience -
losing her favor not only costs you her friendship, the possibility of
ever enjoying her company, but it can also cost you the chance to ever
experience the skills of a Companion.

TIMELINE: Inara will be taken from the middle of Serenity,
prior to when anyone dies but after realizing that she loves Mal.
BACKGROUND: Born on the planet Sihnon, Inara Serra spent her
early life training at Companion House Madrassa where she quickly rose
up through their ranks. Proving to be an excellent student, she was
being groomed to be a House Priestess when she, for reasons she has
never revealed, decided to leave and travel the outer rim. When
pressed she has given such vague answers as "to see the universe" but
many believe that she had other, deeper reasons.

After traveling for a while Inara met up with Captain Malcolm
Reynolds, himself a Sergeant in the Unification War who had come into
possession of a Firefly-class ship called Serenity, which had two
transportation shuttles. After a few rounds of verbal one-upmanship,
Inara had convinced Mal that due to her standing as a licensed
Companion renting a shuttle to her would lend an air of class to the
salvaging and smuggling operation Mal hoped to run. Part of her deal
with Mal was that the shuttle was to be considered her home, which
meant she had the right to allow or deny entry to whoever she liked.
She made it clear she had no intention of servicing him or the crew,
and with the deal solidified they began an incredibly complex but
mostly contentious relationship.

Due to Inara's status as an Alliance-licensed Companion, she was able
to use her reputation in order to assist Mal and the crew of the ship
by getting them access to better areas. As Companions personally pick
their clients, she was able to maintain a mostly successful business
based around where Serenity had arranged jobs, but in time she came to
realize that she was developing feelings for Captain Reynolds,
feelings which she could tell he was experiencing as well, which
complicated matters for her. In an effort to hide the unacknowledged
attraction they felt she made it a point to bicker with him whenever
the opportunity arose, sometimes allowing her feelings to shine
through in more hurtful comments when he truly upset her.

As she traveled with Serenity Inara formed close relationships with
those on the crew. She became an older sister type for the ship's
mechanic Kaylee, bonded with ship doctor Simon over their mutual
aristocracy and breeding, assisted in caring for Simon's mentally
damaged sister River, debated religion with Shepherd Book who was
Catholic as opposed to her Buddhist, and was on friendly terms with
the pilot Wash, his wife (and ship's second in command) Zoe, and
resident bruiser Jayne.

Over time, when the obvious tension between her and Mal became too
difficult for her to hide, with everyone on the crew except for Jayne
being aware of the unresolved sparks between the two, Inara decided
enough was enough and left to go back to the Companion training House
she left behind. There, she was sought out by Bounty Hunter Jubal
Early, a man sent by the Alliance to find River and bring her back to
the scientists who had experimented on the poor girl's brain. Sending
off a message to her old friends on the Serenity, which due to a
complete lack of verbal sparring on her part was quickly deduced to be
a trap, Inara soon found herself back among her friends gearing up for
an adventure the likes of which she had never been on before.
